Motives

Proverbs 16:3- “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” I remember memorizing this verse when I was in high school. I used the old KJV to memorize at that point, but the verse has never left my thoughts. Why would you not want to commit to God everything you do and see your plans succeed? A great recommendation by the writer. But this verse hinges on the one just previous to it, and it’s the one that got me thinking this morning. Prov 16:2 says, “All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord.”

God’s not going to bless something that we are committing to Him if our motives are not pure and right.
Most of you know that my prayer for a long time has been that God would show up and do something extraordinary in the lives of the Mexican people, specifically university students in Zacatecas. But I have to evaluate that plea. Why do I want God to show up and do something extraordinary in the lives of Zacateanos? (Don’t worry about trying to figure out how to pronounce that, you can only say it if you are one). Beyond that what about the other places we are and minister? My plea doesn’t change for places like that either, but is my motive pure and right, that God gets all the glory and it doesn’t matter about me at all or am I looking for attention and recognition that God did this through me?
You’ve got to make the same evaluation. Where does your motive lie? Because if it’s in the wrong place than it doesn’t matter how much you commit to the Lord, He’s not going to bless it!

Encouragement

My apologies for the lack in content recently. I’ve been super busy working on some stuff for the next few weeks. This morning as I sat down to clear my head and beg God for His power on me to get through the day, He reminded me of Ephesians 3:20 . I don’t know about you, but I struggle quite frequently with confidence. Do I have what it takes to do this? Do I have the endurance to get through it? I don’t know that my confidence issue will ever go away, but what I do know is that as long as I have willingness, God has power and if I can stand up in front of that crowd, He will be the One empowering me to do what I never could in the first place.

What’s God want for you that’s beyond your ability? Rest in Him, He can do it, but you can’t. He will empower you to do what you could never do. NOW GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING

Preach it up

Had the opportunity last night to preach at a little church in Jerez, Mexico. Awesome opportunity, I really enjoyed it. I preached on Mark 2 where Jesus healed the paralytic of his physical ailment as well as his more important heart ailment. The main point of the sermon was that we’ve got to be willing to do whatever it takes to get people to Jesus. That’s what these guys did. They were willing to tear the roof off of someone else’s house just to get their friend to Jesus! That’s what we’ve got to be willing to do- whatever it takes to get people to Christ.
Couple thoughts about it:

  • There’s a world out there that need to see the love of Jesus more than just the words He said or the words we think they need to hear. They need to see what Jesus can do for them and that means we need to get a bit uncomfortable in our approach to reach people
  • Jesus is not obligated to heal our ailments as soon as we ask. He’s much more concerned about our greatest need which is the condition of our heart. Check out Mark 2.5. They never asked Jesus to forgive his sins, in their minds it was obvious what they wanted but Jesus looked right past they guys legs and saw his heart.
Jesus is not obligated to heal our defects!
  • There are so many critics that sit around today and judge what churches are doing wrong instead of standing up saying, Hey we might not agree with everything, but God is obviously at work in this and we want to get involved however we can. You can see that in verse 6
  • I’m torn up by the thought of being willing to do whatever it takes to get people to Jesus Christ. There’s not much time left in this world and everyday we come in contact with people who need to love, forgiveness and healing power to Jesus offers
  • Had a good time with the kids of Casa Betania
  • My wife started her own blog, it’s called Your Little Nest. You should check it out, she’s got some fabulous design advice
  • My little boy turned 3 this week
  • I started taking classes online at Liberty University this week and it’s stretching me a lot! Probably because it’s been 6 years since I was in school.
  • I’m more excited than ever to see what God has in store for me and my family

Three Years Later

I know I already wrote about Austin’s birthday but I wanted to say a couple other things. Yesterday was his actual birthday and it brought back a flood of memories about when he was born. All I can say is I’m grateful that those days are now in the past and Austin is out of the woods medically speaking. God did some amazing things to take care of us and him that year. Now he’s the most energetic 3 year old I’ve ever met and he never slows down. From 6AM till 8PM he runs throughout the house wrecking havoc, sometimes that get annoying, but when you look at this picture and then what he’s like today, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Happy Birthday big boy, I’m proud of you
