Best conference

Last weekend we were in the final weekend of a month long missions emphasis at a church in Lees Summit, MO and what a meeting it was. Truly one of the best we have had yet. We stayed with a family that was unbelievable and connected with Austin in a way that we have never seen before. They kidnapped him on Saturday night so that Cris and I could have a night away and their daughter even went into the nursery with him on Sunday morning so that he would feel more comfortable. Poor kid spent 5 hours in there Sunday morning. He’s a trooper!

I had the opportunity to preach on Sunday night and I was as nervous as I ever have been. I have no idea why. They all said, “ah you did great” but i know the truth. Maybe it’s the fact that I can now download myself on iTunes or that I knew that some people in the church already knew us. I don’t know, but I think I connected and I think that God worked. We now have a new partner in Kansas City to reaching Mexico and have a church that is going to come visit us. A church that is striving for world-wide missions.

Field conference

This past week we have spent time with all of our coworkers on the Mexican field in meetings going over our field strategy, vision, and purpose. The picture you see is our meeting room so that you see us working, but the truth is we were staying at a beach resort near Puerta Vallarta. Who said missionaries had to suffer all the time!? We had a good time, accomplished some things and learned a lot about the vision of BMW from 2010-2015. It was awesome to hear about what the focus is changing to and our involvement with that.

Austin had a pretty good time on the beach playing in the sand making sand castles and running into the water. He was pretty cute. This is the first time he’s been to the beach and I think he really enjoyed it.

Our house

Well here it is, our bright orange house. It’s very Mexican as you can see. You can see it housefrom the end of the block, and I think you might be able to see if from space if you look hard enough! It was the first house that we looked at when we arrive in Zacatecas and the landlord just happened to be there working on some things. So we looked and it was everything we were looking for. Two and a half baths, a big kitchen, three bedrooms, and a small yard for Austin to play in. It’s in a secure location with schools all around us. We didn’t end up taking this house for a few more days because we wanted to see what other options were available to us.

The landlord told us the that house had recently been painted throughout, but it was a puke aqua color, so initially we were a bit bummed because we’ve always wanted to paint a house and make it our own. We thought she wouldn’t allow it, but she did so now it’s our own.

So far we’ve been able to paint just about everything in color that we want and have paint enough left over to leave it one color when we leave whenever that may be.

All in all, we are so excited that we finally have a place to call our own, we have a home, and it’s the first house we have ever lived in! Pretty exciting stuff.

Dia de muerte

The end of October Halloween is celebrated in the US. We are learning that this is more of a universal thing, but each place does their own idea. I’ve never really been sold on the idea of this holiday, and now I am more than sure that it is definitely a tool of the devil. This is the second time we have been in Mexico over this celebration and this particular time it has been far more in our face than the previous. The day this picture was taken was the first day we stayed in our new home in Zacatecas. We were painting all day and heard kids running down the street and this is what they were dressed like.

During the night they would come door to door asking for “el muerto”- the dead. If you neglected to give them anything they would put a curse on your house. We got a lot of curses that night and were a little freaked out too. It was quite weird.

To the point- our adversary is very much at work among these people. This is nothing more than one of his tools to deceive people and keep them from seeing the bright light of life that they need so desperately.
