Big prayer

When was the last time you were challenged to pray big? When was the last time you saw God use big prayer to do something awesome that could only be explained as God.

It’s interesting to me that we don’t pray big more often. You wanna know why I think we don’t? You might want to sit down for this….

It takes to much faith to believe it!

Now some of you just wrote me off, and others may now be more interested. It’s amazing to me that we can trust God with the huge things that we have no control over- for example our Salvation which after we accept this gift are extremely grateful to have, but aren’t concerned about losing it. Why? Because the Bible says that we can never lose it, God said it and that’s that. But He also said whatever you ask in Jesus name it will be done! Also very much in the Bible and very true.

Because of this challenge that I recently read from a great book- If you want to walk on water, you’ve got to get out of the boat- I’ve been challenged to pray big and expect God to do some big things, and frankly I’m really excited to see what God is going to do.

Some of you may think i’m nuts, but i can’t wait to see what He is going to do with just a generic prayer. I’m prayer simply for the city of Zacatecas. Nothing specific. I fear if i were to pray for something more specific than that I would be limiting God because my weak mind could never fathom the awesomeness of God. I just want to see a “wow God”!

Will you pray too?

Just thoughts

It’s dark and dreary outside. It’s been raining for a few hours now. I love it when it rains. It’s so calm and relaxing. I’ve been thinking recently about how God uses people, and how He delights to show Himself strong on their behalf. I just read the newsletter of a great friend of our who is working on Honduras. It’s awesome to hear their stories of how God is using them to reach people, to be an encouragement to pastors, and to developed the lives of younger people for their future serving God.

We have other friends in El Salvador who are striving to reach the most that they can in the time that they have. We’ve heard story after story from them of hundreds coming to Christ through means that you would never have thought of.

This afternoon as the rain pattered on our tin roof, I laid in my bed looking at the ceiling and remembering my days in the past when I saw God work through our youth group and reach people, help start a church, and stretch us as people to reach farther.

I remember a particular day on my first missions trip in the Dominican Republic. It would be the last day that we were there, and we decided to spend it at the beach. We sat on a rock cliff over looking the ocean and a huge thunder storm rolled in. Across the vast ocean view we saw lightning every where. It was frightening and somehow peaceful at the same time. Peaceful because our God was displaying His power through something that happens daily all around the world.

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Psalm 19:1- The heavens display the glory of God.

Sometime I really think our world is just to busy. We’ve got to find time in our days to stop and notice how big God is because He takes time to show us daily how amazing He really is.

Gone to the zoo

Today was a fun day. We decided not to hold back today. Most weekends we spend just sitting around recouping from our busy week, but this time we wanted to get out of the house a bit. We went downtown to the zoo to have some fun with Austin. He loved it. He was into every one of those animals. He seemed to get especially carried away with the monkeys that were hanging by their tails! He was all smiles all day long. It was a lot of fun and we were glad that we did it.

It took our minds off of the busyness of Spanish learning as well as all the decisions we are working through right now.

No More Clinica

When we arrived in Costa Rica over a year ago, we knew we would need to find a doctor and a place for Crystal to have Austin. Our first adventure on our own was to this hospital. After being here for about 2 weeks we decided we needed to get a taxi on our own and start figuring things out. So I made us an appointment to have a maternity tour at the hospital and off we went.  It was only a couple weeks after that when Crystal was admitted for the first time for a few days because of premature labor. Just three weeks later Austin would be born.

We’ve spent a lot of time and money here. I joke and tell people that it would have been cheaper for us to just go ahead and buy all of the doctors we worked with a new car for each of them!

Last week we spoke with Crystal’s OBGYN and he took her off her meds for the cysts, and with this change…the stomach pains are gone! Presto!

Thank God these days are soon behind us, and we are grateful that God has been with us every step of the way.

Six Weeks

Apologies for my delay in writing anything. My wife brought it to my attention last night. It’s been a busy few days to say the least. We’ve been working on a few missions projects as well as just the daily busy life of learning Spanish. I changed my grammar class this week and got into a more difficult class, so that takes up a bit more study time too. The class I was in just wasn’t working for me. I would spend 30-45 minutes of my 2 hour class just sitting there while the others in my class got their work done. It’s not a problem with my classmates, we just weren’t on the same levels, and besides that Cris and I only have 6 weeks of language learning to go before our time here is done, and we need to make sure we capitalize on all of those 6 weeks. Can you believe that! Just 48 days and we are finished. Needless to say we are anxious and excited about leaving, seeing some of you, and finally getting to where our hearts are.
