Here come the teeth

We have seen more developments in Austin since we have been here in Atlanta than ever before. Right after we got here he started scooting around, now he a professional crawler. Next we saw him get his first two teeth. Those were some rough days when those were coming through. They caused him a lot of pain, but we’re through part of that.

The next major development was the temper. Just the other day we found this one. We were playing with something and he went to grab for something that he shouldn’t be playing with and i took it away from him. He didn’t like that at all and proceeded to through his little fit.

How fast they learn that they have a will of their own! Everyone that i have talked to about this just laughs and remembers the times of their children.

He’s a character that’s for sure, and we are blessed to have such a wonderful little boy.

Lessons on faith

I read something this weekend that really intrigued my thinking on our current circumstances. I started this book called The Complete Green Letters by Miles Stanford, he has some amazing insights on specifics subjects.

His first chapter is on faith, our largest lesson learned so far.

Stanford quotes this about faith from James McConkey: “Faith is dependence upon God. And this God-dependence only begins when self-dependence ends. And self-dependence only comes to its end, with some of us, when sorrow, suffering, affliction, broken plans and hopes bring us to that place of self-helplessness and defeat. And only then do we find that we have learned the lesson of faith; to find our tiny craft of life rushing onward to a blessed victory of life and power and service undreamt of in the days of our fleshly strength and self-reliance.”

In his second chapter, on time, Stanford has this to say, “It seems that most believers have difficulty in realizing and facing up to the inexorable fact that God does not hurry in His development of our Christian life. He is working from and for eternity! So many feel they are not making progress unless they are swiftly and constantly forging ahead.”

Those two thoughts just about contain our life right now and all our thinking. Everything is so uncertain but what we hold constantly dear to us is the consistency of Christ and our faith in Him. We have no idea what tomorrow holds for us, but we know that He is certain.

I would love to be able to tell you tonight that we know when we are returning to our home in Costa Rica or when we will finish our formal language training and when we will make our move to Mexico and reach our first Spanish convert, but all those things are uncertain right now.

We are praising God that He is constant, and that no matter what tomorrow brings He is sure and we are cared and provided for. This is His ministry, and He knew every detail of what would happen to us this year-I pray for the betterment of our service to Him.

Big decisions

We had to make a tough decision this week. On Monday we had an appointment with a stomach doctor. With the symptoms that Crystal was describing to him, his thoughts were to straight to two tests-endoscopy and colonoscopy. On Thursday she had these tests preformed and they found nothing serious inside. They did take a small part to biopsy and we should have those results this week. We are really hoping they find at least something. For so long now they have just treated the symptoms but not the actual problem. Hopefully they can find the problem this time. Pray for that! Crystal is so exhausted from all these problems with her body.

So anyway we had to make a big decision this week. On Monday we had to decided to pull out of classes for the rest of this trimester. Friday marked us being out of classes for a full month, and that’s just to much time to be away and still be able to recover from what we have missed. Remaining in class would not have been a wise decision.

We are really torn over this, but believe this is what God wants for us right now. Sometimes the decision to wait on God is the hardest to make. Pray for us to get through and be able to learn what we need.

I’m so proud of Crystal for being so strong!

Nothing is safe

Austin is going to town with this crawling bit. When we first started it was a scoot here and a scoot there, now he’s just everywhere. The other day I put him on the floor and went in the bathroom to wash my hands, and just a second later i heard something fall and then a painful scream and cry. He had crawled all the way up to the desk in our room and grabbed the phone cord and pulled it off the desk onto his head.

Our days of peace are just about over! Before we know it he’ll be running our tails off and not a moment of rest will be found in our house!

Happy Tuesday

Well here we are, we made it. Tuesday! Praise God for Tuesday. It’s better than Monday, and not so busy and stressful as Wednesday!

Besides that today, Tuesday, is my little brothers birthday, so a big shout out to him.

Crystal continues to go through some rough times with her body, and I really feel for her. This week she will have to undergo several tests for stomach issues she has been dealing with for quite some time now. She’s in constant pain and frustration. Keep praying for her. She will have her tests on Thursday of this week and hopefully by next week we will know some more about why the constant irritation. God willing these days will soon be behind us.

Throughout all of this we have really seen God working in us. Constantly we are learning more about His faithfulness and grace to us-His children. We love Him, we love serving Him, and we love the fact that soon this will all come together and God will use these things to ministry to others. Praise Him for that!
